2023 Professional Learning Award Winners

Learning Forward Texas named the Ferris ISD Instructional Technology Department and the Klein ISD Professional Learning Department winners of the 2023 Outstanding Professional Learning Award. The annual award recognizes exemplary districts, teams, or campuses that utilize high-quality, results-driven professional learning designed to impact student achievement.

Jessica Cain, Elementary Instructional Technology Specialist in Ferris ISD, submitted Mastermind Learning, a combination of asynchronous learning opportunities, coaching cycles, and collaboration to provide teachers with the time, space, relationships, and resources to help grow their teaching craft

Director of Professional Learning Monica Shallenberger submitted the TLD Academy (Teacher Leadership Development Academy) program at Klein ISD. Other members of the professional learning team are Caitlin Cloyd, Professional Learning Program Coordinator,  and Dr. Jessica Tovar-Hilbert, Professional Learning Program Coordinator.

“These two award recipients are a testament to the skill, ingenuity, innovation, and vision of professional learning at its best to support educators.  As a Board, we are thrilled to celebrate these two outstanding professional learning departments and their accomplishments,” says Vicki Arrington, President of Learning Forward Texas

These programs will be honored at the TASA Mid-Winter Conference in Austin, TX, on January 31.  They will also receive their award from Learning Forward Texas at a school board meeting in their district. Terri Iles Learning Forward Academy Scholarship

The Learning Forward Academy provides a forum for educators to analyze their practices and engage in dedicated, uninterrupted think tank-type experiences with individuals from all facets of education. Learning Forward Texas annually provides a scholarship for a member of our Texas affiliate to participate in the Learning Forward Academy.

In June of 2020, Terri Iles retired after five years as Executive Director of Learning Forward Texas.  Terri has a passion for professional learning, and she loves Texas.  She wanted to ensure that LFTX supported the Academy by providing support and funding for a Texan to participate. At the June Board meeting, the LFTX board unanimously voted to name our academy scholarship the Terri Iles Learning Forward Texas Academy Scholarship

We encourage LFTX members to explore the benefits of participating in the Learning Forward Academy and consider applying.  Once the 2025 cohort has been announced, Learning Forward Texas will select its scholarship winner.

Learning Forward is recruiting candidates for the Academy Class of 2025, and the Scholarship recipient will be selected from those candidates. Application deadline: March 15, 2023
